Summer will unofficially kick off in Portage today, as Splash Island opens for the season. PRRA General Manager David Sattler says in honour of National Fitness Day they're offering a free public swim at the water park. Sattler notes they do have some new features this year, adding the area is expanding and they've made a few renovations to the ladies' change room after receiving some complaints about the shower drains. He says they're trying hard to keep up with the number of visitors they get, adding they're also trying to introduce something new so that the folks who are coming to spend their day are a bit more comfortable.

Sattler notes they're very excited for this upcoming season at Splash Island, especially when they consider the winter they just went through with the indoor facility being closed. He says they've reconfigured the outdoor schedule so they can offer more programs, more swimming lessons and more Aqua-fit while still keeping that balance with the public swim and getting their aquatic users some pool time.
