The Eriksdale Talent Night held on Saturday has already raised $17,178.

There were more than two-dozen performances over the four-hour show, and people could pledge money for their favourites. The show was simulcast on radio on 920 CFRY.

Board Member for the Eriksdale Community Club Jerry Saunders says they love holding these talent shows whenever they can.

"This is fantastic. The community always comes together and gets behinds us, and supports everything we've been doing here," says Saunders. "The building is 50-some-years-old, so it needs a lot of renovations. Everybody got together. Over $15,000 is phenomenal. I just don't know what to say."

Saunders played as part of the band, The Third Chins, who performed several tunes throughout the night. Their group raised $2,390, which was the highest total of any contestant. He says it's not about competition -- it's about raising as much money as possible for a good cause.

"The money is going toward a new floor in our bar hall. (That portion of the building) was built in 1974," says Saunders. "It's done. It's completely worn out. It's peeling off. We've got some estimates in. It's around $20,000 to $25,000. This will do it. With that much money, we've got some put away for it already. I was thinking, a year away, we might be able to do it. I think we can probably go ahead with it right away."

Josh and Braden Lussier raised $2,172 while Loa and Iris Thorkelson raised $1,404. Shirley Russell raised over $1,000 as well.

"Thank you to all of the contestants, all the people that pledged, all the advertisers, everyone that put their heart and soul into this, all of the volunteers that were here helping tonight," says Saunders. "It was great. I just, have no words."

Loa Thorkelson was named the 1st place winner, while Raelene Lussier was the runner-up. Sadie Lindell-Norberg finished 3rd and also took home the award for Most Promising Performer.

Pledges will be collected until February 24th. Pledges can be dropped off locally at the Noventis Credit Union.
