Are those lavender jerseys the Portage Terriers are wearing?

They will be tonight, as the team is set to host its annual Cancer Care Night and will don lavender — some might say purple — jerseys for the first time. In year's past the team has worn pink jerseys for it's Central Plains Cancer Services fundraising games, and Terriers marketing director Heather Jordan says they made the switch because of what the colours represent.

"This year we decided to go with the lavender because it represents all cancers," Jordan says.

The colour pink is often associated with just breast cancer awareness, while purple, or lavender, is more closely tied to all cancer awareness. The club will be auctioning off the game worn special edition jerseys with all proceeds going towards Central Plains Cancer Services.

The Terriers will line up against the Selkirk Steelers for the tail-end of a home-and-home set tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the PCU Centre. Don't forget your purple shirt.
