The Prairie Players are staging the Sound of Music for their fall production on the 16th and 17th for theatre, and the 18th and 19th for dinner theatre, which is this week at the Glesby Centre in Portage la Prairie. Stephanie Kauffman is music director. Acting Director Chris Kitchen says they broke their record for cast size.

"It's a 41-member cast, which is a new, huge number. We have the music of course. We haven't done very many musicals. And this is not just regular music. We've got a whole series of songs that are all done in Latin, which is incredible for the ladies acting as nuns who are doing that. It sounds beautiful, but you're learning a whole new language."

He says the atmosphere for rehearsal's tense, seeing as only a few days are left before performance. Kitchen explains it's good because it motivates the players to tighten up their acting. He adds when a production is quite a while ahead, they don't do as well as their potential.

Kitchen says as tense as they are, they're greatly anticipating the crowds that will come and the many comments they'll receive afterward. He says he wants the actors to be themselves in their roles, and that's showing up as things fall into the right spots where they need to be.

He notes any actor who gets on stage sees the crowd who attends as their highlight. They want to see people drawn into the arts with music theatre.

People can get their Thursday and Friday tickets at the Glesby Centre box office at $15.00 each, with dinner theatre tickets $45.00 each including the meal from Bill's Sticky Fingers.
They can also be ordered online at www.glesbycentre.com.

Dinner theatre tickets must be purchased at the box office on location because you have to select which table you're sitting at.

All proceeds go to the operations at the William Glesby Centre as a fundraiser.
