The annual Law Enforcement Torch Run in Portage la Prairie is slated to take place on Tuesday. Sgt. Kristen Tompsett from the Dakota Ojibway Police Service says this is the third year for the run, which brings DOPS and the RCMP together to raise awareness for Special Olympics. Tompsett notes the event will begin at the Rufus Prince building on Crescent Road, adding participants will run more than four kilometers around the Crescent and up to the RCMP detachment on Lorne Avenue. She says this year's event is even more exciting because the Special Olympics Manitoba Summer Games will be held in Brandon from June 16th to the 18th.

Tompsett notes officers from DOPS and the RCMP will run as one big group and will pass the torch from time to time to different people. She adds it's not a fast pace but more of a fun run, so folks are more than welcome to come out and join them. Tompsett says if you'd like to just stand along the Crescent and cheer on the runners, that would be great as well.

She notes there will be a BBQ and refreshments at the RCMP detachment following the run, and everyone is welcome. The Law Enforcement Torch Run will kick off at 2 p.m. Tuesday and Tompsett says the BBQ will start some time between 3 and 3:30.
