The Town of Carberry is slowly starting to open up as the pandemic stabilizes.

Many community services were shut down to help protect staff and residents.

Mayor Stuart Olmstead says it's an interesting time for everybody.

"It's easier to close down something than it is to open it up. When we did receive a lot of the information that came in around mid-March to close things down, those were easier decisions."

He says it was a hard choice to not allow things like public gatherings.

Olmstead talks about the decision to start re-opening things.

"Honestly, it comes down to a certain amount of risk and comfort at the same time. Do people feel that they are in a safe enough space to re-open and go back to normal, but it's not normal."

The Town of Carberry has already re-opened its town hall.

"We re-opened last week with new social distancing policies. We have one person in the office at a time, and shields at the front desk to make sure employees are not in physical contact with anybody."

Olmstead wants the residents of Carberry to acclimatize to the new normal at your own pace.

"As to how to deal with it, we'll probably take our different stances as to what we feel comfortable with. Some people are going to be at risk from this coronavirus for quite some time. There is no cure."

The majority of the town's events have been cancelled due to the restrictions in place.
