With a possible Canada Post strike around the corner, communities in the region are reminding residents to consider electronic billing.

The Town of Carman is encouraging residents to sign up for pre-authorized payments for water and taxes to avoid possible late fees if post services halt.

"We all hope there won't be a strike and that they'll settle this," Carman Mayor Bob Mitchell says. "But if they don't the alternatives are they can contact the town... lots of people are into direct deposit, it might be a good time for people to think of doing that."

Carman officials note water bills were printed June 30, and anyone who hasn't received their bill can stop by Town Office. Town water bills are due July 22 and property taxes are due August 31.

The disruption to postal service could begin July 2 as Canada Post and the employee union have yet to come to an agreement.
