On February 8th, at about 7:30 a.m., Portage la Prairie RCMP was called to a transport trailer on fire near Austin on Highway #1.

Media Liaison Officer Cst. Larry Neufeld says when the call came in, the information provided said no hazardous goods were on the trailer. When Fire and Police arrived, they learned there were hazardous goods inside the burning trailer.

The traffic was routed down a service road while the fire department extinguished the trailer and the tow company was able to remove the trailer from the road.

The 51-year-old driver from Winnipeg was issued a fine of $1296.00 for transporting dangerous goods without proper dangerous goods safety marks.
