The Municipality of Norfolk-Treherne's dealing with the eventual closing of its ambulance station by the province.

It's one of several chosen to be shut down recently.

Reeve Craig Spencer calls the lack of information a huge concern.

"The only information we got is basically through AMM (Association of Manitoba Municipalities)," he says, "They sent out a bulletin indicating that the ambulance bay operating in Treherne would be closed. I've been approached by a large number of people, with their concerns, based upon how this will affect service."

Spencer says a committee's been formed that includes members of Council and the local economic development corporation to get more information.

"I've spoken with our MLA, (Infrastructure Minister) Blaine Pedersen," he says, "So we are going to continue to move forward, and Minister Pedersen is going to pursue it on his end to find some information, because right now, without information, mis-information is happening to try to fill the void, and people are quite, quite concerned."

Spencer says they've worked with other municipalities to create a healthy, health community.

"We've raised three-quarters of a million dollars in the last year and a half to build a new medical clinic. We have three outstanding, long-term doctors. We have a very functioning, and well-run hospital. We feel this is a negative that's been thrown our way, and we don't understand why, and we need to have it explained to us, if it can be."

If the station closes, Spencer has no idea where EMS services would come from.
