A Portage la Prairie city councillor is applauding those who are working to make the city a more beautiful place. Brent Froese, who's also the city's community services committee chair, says the Portage Community Revitalization Corporation has been doing some excellent work to make the city a better place, including once again carrying out their annual graffiti removal program.

"It's a fantastic experience for the people that do it. I've known some of the kids that are involved with the program and they really enjoy it. It's a feel good thing."

Froese says steps are also taking place to clean up the litter around the city. He notes the PCRC Team Up to Clean Up event is just around the corner, after being postponed from May due to the weather. He notes that initiative is always well received, as it gets the whole community involved in making Portage a better place.

"It's phenomenal. Every little bit makes a difference. If it's just reaching down to pick up a piece of trash that missed the garbage can it helps. If everyone does a little bit, it just makes the whole city look so much better."

The timing of the community-wide clean up was strategically selected by the Portage Community Revitalization Corporation. While they initially hoped to hold the event on May 28th, cold, rainy weather put the initiative on hold. They've since decided to host the event on July 20th, just before the judges from Communities in Bloom come to the city.
