Portage la Prairie firefighters were called out just after midnight, to deal with a pair of blazes.

A fire department spokesperson says the 911 calls came in on top of each other around 12:30.

One fire was in the 50 block of 5th Street Northwest, while the second was in 100 block of 1st Street Northwest.

Three trucks were sent to 5th Street, and two went to 1st Street.

Both houses were vacant.

It's believed the 1st Street fire started in a rear vent area. It's not known where the 5th Street fire started, although the building was also damaged by a fire in April.

Both fires are being called suspicious, and are being investigated by the Fire Commissioner's Office.

There were no injuries.

It's thought this is where the fire started in the 1st Street Northwest house
