Tupper Street Family Resource Centre has a new coordinator for summer programs this year. Katy Unruh's official position is Summer Program Coordinator, and she explains what she does.

"As the Summer Program Coordinator, I'm planning and facilitating all of the family fun days in the summer. Because we still have regular programming going on and the staff is limited at Tupper Street Family Resource Centre, I get to come in and do all of the fun summer events and then go back to school in the fall."

Unruh hopes to become a music teacher some day, and notes this job could help her reach that goal.

"I'm hoping to go into music education. I'm still not sure what age range I'd like to be teaching, so any experience with kids. I love kids, and I think a lot of being a music teacher is building community within your school and with the families that you teach. I'm really excited to have this opportunity here to get to know some of the families in Portage because if I end up teaching in Portage, it's helpful because I'll have made these connections and established myself in the community."

She says she plans to try and include music in some of the events this summer.

"I have a lot of ideas tumbling around in my head. At his point, most of our themes have already been chosen, and we aren't planning on doing a full event with a full music theme. For the Growing Up Green program, we have a rhyme time group and we'll be singing some songs, and at some events, we'll have music playing and some dancing. I really hope to incorporate as much in as I can."

Unruh says she's very excited to work at the job all summer.
