The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #65 in Portage la Prairie held their Veterans' Dinner last night, as part of Legion Week celebrations.

Legion President Barb Bradley says around 100 vets and their family members were treated to an amazing roast beef dinner. She says the dinner's about recognition.

"This is our fourth annual Veterans' Dinner, and it's to show support for our past veterans, those who have fallen or are elderly, and for our current modern veterans. We're really hoping to embrace the modern vet and let them know what the legion has to offer them."

Lieutenant-Colonel Marc-Antoine Fecteau was stopped in to show his support and gives his thoughts on the night.

"I think it's a great event. I think it's something very important, and that's why I came. I came for personal reasons, but it's also an official function because I'm here in uniform for a reason," he says. "The veterans, we need to support them more than just on Remembrance Day. They're getting older and older, the very few that were in the war, but people at the legions if we don't come out the legions will die. So we need to come out and show our support."

Bradley adds they have a lot of great things planned to finish off Legion Week.

"Thursday night is our crib tournament, it's $8.00 to register for crib and registration is at 6:45 -- the tournament starts at 7. There's a social lunch, prize money for 3rd place, and everybody is welcome if you like to play crib come down. Friday we have our usual Meat Draw and Chase the Ace, and then Saturday we have a steel tip darts tournament and Saturday night we have a social in the Cedar Lounge."

Last night's dinner was free for Vets and their guests, and $12.00 for anyone else.
