The Portage Vintage Cruisers' annual "Show and Shine" took place earlier today at Island Park.

Plenty of people brought their vintage rides or modern cars out for the day. Allan McLean came out to the event with his 1905 Orient Buckboard.

"It's been in our family since it was new. We take it to car shows; I was in Morden and Garden City in Winnipeg, and stuff like that. Bring it over to the island almost every year."

McLean shares he's a collector of vehicles and has been interested in cars his whole life. He notes the Buckboard is his favourite because it's different and unique.

Another participant at the "Show and Shine" shares he became interested in vehicles when he bought his first car at 15 or 16 years of age.

"Most first cars needed work so that's how you get into fixing them up and doing things to them because they have to be mechanically safe to be on the road and drive around. So, as you buy your first car, then you buy your second car, and it goes on and on and on from there."

He shares as he got older it turned into a hobby and he now does a circuit of car shows throughout the summer.
