The Portage Curling Club is still looking for volunteers for the 2017 Viterra Championship. Volunteer Committee Chair Dean Moxham says they had a great turnout at their last sign-up evening but they can use about fifty more people to help out. Moxham notes they'll be doing another sign-up on Monday and Wednesday night from 6 to 8 p.m. as well as a session on Wednesday afternoon from 12:30 until 2 p.m. He says if there are people who may have already registered as volunteers but still need to be sized for apparel, they can also come down and get that taken care of during any of those sessions. Moxham notes the sign-ups will once again take place in the curling club's lobby.

He adds while they already have almost two hundred and fifty volunteers on their list, there are still a variety of jobs left to be filled. Moxham says they'll need some folks to work in hospitality and as ushers, security personnel, and ticket takers. He notes all the positions will involve dealing with the public, so they'll likely be a good fit for a lot of people.

Moxham says having the Viterra Championship come to Portage la Prairie in February should have a wonderful economic impact on the whole area. He notes many folks will be coming into town for the five day tournament, adding Portage has always been known to put on a good event for the curling community. Moxham adds the PCU Centre is an ideal location for the men's championship and they're looking forward to seeing a full arena, because the curlers appreciate the opportunity to showcase their stuff in front of large crowds.
