The second ever Canad Inns Mixed Doubles Classic is quickly approaching, and the Portage la Prairie Curling Club's almost set for the action.

If you're looking for a chance to catch the action from up close, Portage Canad Inns' General Manager Trent Ward explains they're looking for some volunteers.

"It takes quite a few volunteers to put it on. It's an Olympic Qualifying Event, so we need to find some time-keepers to keep time at the games. So it's a relatively easy job, flipping a couple of buttons and you can learn it in a couple of minutes, that's the main part. With it being a huge Olympic Qualifier event the top Canadian gets into the Canadian Olympic Trials for the next Olympics."

Ward says volunteering is the best way to see some of the best curlers in the world.

"The best teams want to play against the best teams. We have a tremendous field with 32 teams from around the world. Russia is sending two teams, and they're the defending World Champions in mixed doubles. China is sending a couple of teams, South Korea, and there's a number of teams from the USA coming up to curl in it."

He adds the competitors love coming to Portage, which makes for great competition.

"They love the curling, and love the fact that it's a one stop place. They don't have to travel around because the hotel is right here, restaurants and all that are all right here. It's travelling distance from the airport, we pick them up and treat them fantastic. The biggest thing the curling club loves is the facility itself, because if you're not going to provide them with a top rated facility they're not going to come."
