Yesterday's beautiful weather contributed to the privilege of some Portagers who participated in the annual Walk For Dog Guides take place in Portage la Prairie.

Some of the people who participated"I think it was quite successful," says spokesperson Wilf Schellenberg. "We were down in our numbers, though. There were 18 people who walked with dogs. They're a pretty dedicated bunch and gathered up a number of donations. Everyone seemed to enjoy the nice weather with their animals. Donations were down."

He explains the money raised was significant, although only one-fifth of what's required to pay for the total costs of dog training and training the recipient of a guide dog, which is $25-thousand.

Schellenberg adds one woman brings her hearing ear dog with her every year, and you can recognize it by its red harness. He says it's hard to resist, but try not to pet the dogs while they're at work.
