Things look to be changing up a bit from the frigid weather we had been experiencing for a short while as we break into the unofficial winter season. (Winter technically starts on December 21.)

Justin Shelly. Meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada speaks to the change in weather we will see throughout the next seven days.

"We had seen a few days of cooler temperatures with a colder air mass from the north in place, but as we go into today (Friday) and through the weekend and next week, we sort of get into this variable pattern where we're going to see generally warmer than normal temperatures. But, it is going to be varying a bit, and there is the chance of some unsettled weather periodically through the week." He continues. "So, we are going to be on the warmer side of things, but it could be a bit unsettled too from time to time as well."

Shelly explains that the temperatures we are going to be seeing are above seasonal.

"The last few days were more seasonable, but with this warmer variable pattern, it is going to be above normal for this time of year. So, for the region, generally daytime highs are around the minus five range, and we're seeing temperatures about 5 degrees warmer than that, maybe a bit more, certain days with temperatures getting just above the freezing mark."

He concludes that while the temperatures are projected to be warm, you should be alert of any sudden change that may occur to the forecast.

"We are going to see those warmer temperatures overall, but just keep an eye out on the forecast to see if there's any impactful weather on the way."
