The City of Portage la Prairie's adjusting to its new water meter system, and it's caused some delays in water bills in parts of the city. Councillor and Waterworks Chair Wayne Wall explains many homes didn't get their regular quarterly bills.

"There is a bit of work to do. And the biggest area is Area 1 south of Saskatchewan Ave. The bills of that area should go out the first of the week. What we've been asking people to do is if you haven't got your regular quarterly bill, and your bills is, say, $150, maybe it's a good idea to go into City Hall and pay $150 on your account."

Wall outlines the reasons for the delays.

"Computer software, and melding previous readings from old meters with with readings from new meters, a lot of manual input, and I think we're very close to having everything blended together and working well. I won't promise you that. I'm just saying we're doing the best we can. The bills for Area 1 should go out first of the week, and they'll likely be a five month bill."

He asks you to be patient as they adjust to the new system.
