The Municipality of Westlake-Gladstone just received word they'll get a substantially large grant to help complete some work required since the previous amalgamation of municipalities.

"We have to redo our development plan and zoning by-laws," explains Mayor David Single. "So, a while ago we hired someone to do it. We received notice that we had a grant from the Community Planning Assistance program to give us some money toward it. The money is just under $37,000."

Single explains it'll take a year to accomplish, and likely longer. He notes this will also mean there will be only one zoning by-law as opposed to the current three, which will make things much simpler. Single adds the by-laws aren't very different, but they have to decide on the best one.

He notes a single by-law also helps attract business to the area. With the information on their website, business owners can glance at it and know exactly what they're applying for, noting boundaries are all laid out. Single says it must be done every five years, anyway, and it's been past due since the amalgamation slowed things down.

Single says they expected the grant to come their way, but it's just great to know that money's definitely enroute.
