Families gathered at Westpark School yesterday evening to take in their annual carnival. Westpark Principal Brian Ferguson explains where the proceeds from the event go.

"The proceeds from this go back into our playground outside. We are working on building a natural style playground with hills and slides rather than a more "build up" play structures so we are building down into the ground."

He explains it takes a lot of hand to make the carnival run properly.

"We've got all of the staff who are involved and a good number of students. Students through grade 5 to 12 are involved in helping run different events. We've got the kitchen set up by volunteers and all stations are run by volunteers. We have a number of community organizations that have donated to our silent auction."

Ferguson says it's always a joy to see the students take part in running the carnival as it's a great way for them to give back to the community.
