Portage la Prairie finally got a taste of positive temperatures this weekend, but how long will it last?

Environment and Climate Change Canada meteorologist Sara Hoffman says we'll have above-normal temperatures to kick-off the week.

"The normal for this time of year in Portage la Prairie area is the daytime high of minus five," says Hoffman. "For example, Monday and Tuesday, we're looking at well over five degrees for the normal for this time of year. That leads to the end of the week as well."

Portagers can expect some precipitation Tuesday into Wednesday morning. Hoffman adds it'll equate to nothing too prolonged or long-lasting, more-so like an on-and-off showering. She notes you shouldn't get too comfortable with the warm temperatures because the cold is expected to return.

"This weekend, we dip below normal once more," says Hoffman. "Although this dip doesn't look to be prolonged or nearly as intense as the last cold spell that we came out of."

The average low for this time of year is -16.6, so the weekend values fall within that range. Hoffman notes the North American Ensemble Forecast carries a positive trend for next week.

"Looking at the (week of) March 2nd, we're looking at a very high probability of above-normal temperatures across much of Canada, into northern portions of Alberta," she says. "So, it'll be a warm one."
