The first human case of West Nile Virus has been identified for this year in Manitoba.

Manitoba Health has indicated a male in his 40's from Southern Health-Santé Sud experienced neurological symptoms and was hospitalized. Health officials believe he was exposed during the week of July 17th. No further details have been made available.

Historically, this is a high risk period for West Nile Virus activity in Manitoba. The health department estimates the current risk for human exposure is moderate.

Positive mosquitoes have been found in Altona, Boissevain, Killarney, Souris, Stonewall, Virden, West St.Paul, Winkler and Winnipeg.
