The City of Portage la Prairie had another very successful yard waste collection this spring. Councillor Liz Driedger says the collection ended on May 29th and the total came to 3,639 bags of leaves, sticks and grass trimmings. Driedger notes all the yard waste was brought to the compost site at the city garage, adding the compost there is available for Portage residents to pick up and use in their own gardens.

She says the Parks department has also been busy this spring, planting a total of 360 trees to help beautify our fair city. Driedger notes council would like to thank "Tree Canada" and the "CN Eco-Connexions" program for a twenty-five thousand dollar grant which enabled them to plant so many new trees this year. She adds Portage was one of fifty-two cities across the country to be awarded the grant.
