RCMP say a small fire was started by a group of youths in the back lane of 5th Street NE, north of Saskatchewan Avenue, in Portage la Prairie.

Police say a call came in around 10:30 p.m. to report that a pile of objects had been lit on fire by suspects who then fled from the area. The fire was extinguished without any damage to property or injury. RCMP were not able to locate the suspects. Police remind anyone who observes suspicious activity to report it by calling your local RCMP detachment.

"This is something we've seen in the past. I wouldn't say it's a trend, but we always want to try and catch the people responsible when it's happening," says RCMP media liasion Const. Sean O'Keefe. "If you do see something or come across something happening, calling us promptly goes a long way to making sure we can make patrols and find those responsible."
