Tisha Tessier was inside her Oakville home when she heard her six-year-old daughter crying outside. The girl came inside and told her mother she had just encountered two moose while playing outside.

"Of course, I didn't really believe her because, I mean, we're in the middle of town," she laughed. "I was like, 'No, you didn't.' And then I went outside and looked and the moose were walking down the street."

Having lived in Oakville for over a decade, Tessier had never seen a moose in her entire life, let alone a pair of them, and in Oakville, of all places. That is, until last Friday, a rare sighting unfolded in her backyard.

"I have never seen a moose in my life, so this was pretty cool for me. There were two of them, and they were quite young, you could tell."

Tessier notes that the size and beauty of the two moose were breathtaking.

"It was very neat. My kids and I were just in awe. We never thought we'd see a moose that close. We kept a safe distance because I'm not going anywhere near that."

She adds that the duo was very strategic in their visit, using the community pathway from one end of town to the other before walking off.

The story undoubtedly made Manitoba's two wandering creatures renowned, with CTV Winnipeg even picking up the tale.
