Wednesday afternoon at about 2:00 p.m., Portage Firefighters were dispatched to a grassfire on the bypass in the eastbound south ditch between the highway and the service road, just east of the 240 overpass, and slightly east of the water treatment plant.
Two trucks were present with one pumping water. All appeared under control.
Dry conditions are just right for fires to start quite easily. Please keep an eye out and take safety precautions with this in mind.
