RICHARD JAMES SHOTBOLT

After a life well lived on his own terms, it is with love and sadness that we announce the passing of Richard ( Dick) at the age of 73 on February 3, 2024 in Ypsilanti, Michigan where he made his home with his wife Diane.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Diane, his two sons Christoper Blowatt and Colin Shotbolt grandchildren Jessie, Joel and Chantel Blowatt, brother Keith Shotbolt ( Lillian) and sister Faye Nickart (Robert) along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Dorothy and Charles Shotbolt, sister Beatrice Robb, brother Gerald Shotbolt and sister Sharon Ogilvie.

Dick was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on June 28, 1950 and spent his first 10 years in Amaranth, Manitoba moving to Portage la Prairie in 1960. Upon completion of high school, Dick apprenticed as an industrial Electrician. His career as an electrician took him to construction projects all across Canada and the United States. Dick was a proud member of IBEW ( International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) where he made many lasting friendships and they provided a family atmosphere during his travels. His wife Diane lovingly and willingly followed him to his many jobs where they had numerous adventures.

Dick had a curious and Intelligent mind and was a natural storyteller as anyone who knew him could confirm. He loved to talk. Dick was like a cat with nine lives. Many of his stories were recounting the close calls he had. An avid goose hunter and fisherman, Richard loved the outdoors. He was happiest in the Delta Marsh, in a boat fishing or in the mountains of British Columbia where he always said he would like to be.

No formal funeral service will be held. Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be buried with his family in Portage la Prairie at a future date. A memorial service will be held then.
