Splash Island highlights Safety during the annual Safety Awareness Day.

The acting aquatic supervisor at Splash Island feels today's annual Safety Awareness Day will do more than just improve safety for staff and visitors.

Amanda Brown feels it's important for the general public to witness the initiative, as it dispels any beliefs the staff aren't trained for emergencies.

A mock emergency this afternoon will get that message through.  The staff and members of the Portage paramedic team will practice a spinal injury to showcase their skills in emergency response.

Safety Awareness Day is running until 5:30 today, and will offer face-painting and tattooing among other activities.

Brown thinks the safety showcase provides parents' with piece of mind.
