A man from Sandy Bay First Nation attempted to deceive an officer with a phony name last week.

On April 19, at around 2:00 p.m., Amaranth RCMP conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle on Highway 50 in Amaranth.

The 25-year-old man from Sandy Bay First Nation provided the officer with a false name when asked.

The official was able to determine his correct name, and learned he was prohibited from driving a motor vehicle.

The driver was placed under arrest and faces charges of Operation of a Vehicle While Prohibited and Obstructing a Police Officer. He was also issued two tickets under the Highway Traffic Act totalling $970.00 and the vehicle he was driving was towed and impounded.

He also had an outstanding Arrest Warrant for Failing to Comply with a Conditional Sentence Order.

The driver was held and appeared in court on April 22.
