About thirty family members and friends of the Vopni family were on hand yesterday for a cairn dedication at Portage's Vopni Park.

The cairn commemorates Wilfred Vopni, who originated Vopni press in 1946. The building occupied the space that's now home to the park.

Vopni's first wife, Jean Thomas, is pleased because Wilfred was always interested in Portage. He also served on city council.

Mayor Ian MacKenzie was part of Vopni Press for many years. The cairn brought back many memories for him, and he hopes it serves as a reminder to Portagers of where their newspapers originated.
