Handy Dandy Photo Of Some Candy

Here we are, just one week away from Halloween, which also means November is fast approaching. Well, should we get into this and see what the happ is?

- So, not to start off on a sour note but the Portage Terriers are having a rough go as of late. They've allowed 19 goals in their last two games, but I'm sure some home crowd support could get them out of this funk as they're back in action Wednesday night (7:30) against Wayway.

- Mandy Dubois and the fine peeps down at the United Way continue to fundraise towards their campaign goal of $247,500. Yeah, it's a lot of money but they're already a quarter of the way there and with your support they'll reach 100%! Few ways you can help out would to make a straight up cash donation, or, they're doing a Halloween chip sale with all sorts of different varieties available until the 26th. Looking ahead too, the MGEU puts on a spaghetti luncheon each year in support of PPUW which is November 2.

- Curling, it's Canada's number two winter sport (sorry luge). Now that the CanadInns Classics are done you can get out there and strut your stuff with the Portage Curling Club's leagues that will begin this week. If you've never curled before and would like to learn the ins and outs, the club is offering Learn To Curl beginning this weekend. Check out PortageCurlingClub.com for more.

- Don't forget about the Aviva Community Fund vote that could see our city get $100,000 for a fully accessible play structure in the north end, pretty neat-o! Make sure to vote before Friday, to do here.

- "Get the shot, not the flu" - A very smart person   Flu clinics return this month with Portage's first this Wednesday at the PCU Centre. Times and locations of others can be found on the Mix Blog (btw, you're on the blog now if you're reading this, so once you're done just click back ;)

- Gotta love the Portage Animal Welfare Society. Not only do they take care of some adorable animals, they saw their chance for the greatest social name and did not disappoint. The annual Fur Ball Social is this Saturday at the PCU Centre, tix are $12.

- Halloween, and then, Christmas. Okay, there's two months between them but it's almost a guarantee people will already start prepping early. November 12th is Homes For The Holidays' 12th anniversary and over that time has raised well over $100,000 for Habitat For Humanity. Basically they've raised enough money over that time to build a home for a family in the community. This year they'll once again have two tour times (afternoon, evening) and early bird tickets are available now at Bryson's, Solomon's, Schpanksy's, Mil-Jeanne's and Canadian Tire.
