Warmer weather is here and for many, pulling the golf clubs out of the garage could be right around the corner.

Robby Moar, the Manager of the Portage Golf Club, is eagerly preparing for the day when patrons could be teeing off at the club.

"We're hoping to open for everyone as soon as possible. I know Farrol's guys are out working pretty hard here for us, so I don't have an exact date, but I think with the weather the way it is, if we can keep the rain away, it shouldn't take too much longer to get going."

In fact, the plan is to have the course open this weekend for members only and no carts. Moar says the phones have been ringing with golfers wanting to prepare for the season that is almost here.

"People are coming to get their memberships and calling about different things, so we are excited to get going. I know a lot of people have been waiting all winter for this, so we're going to try to make it the best it can be."

He mentions that having continued support from the area always means a lot to the course.

"We appreciate everybody that comes, whether it's from Portage or travels to us. Many businesses step up and help us with whole sponsorships and just people getting memberships. We definitely couldn't do it without the people of Portage."

If you want to head to the golf course to see how everything is progressing, the Pro Shop is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Cart Barn is open to maintain your carts, and the Restaurant is open daily from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

As far as the surrounding courses go, Southport and MacGregor hope to open on April 20th, weather permitting.
