The Canadian Government is ringing in the New Year with a 1% cut on GST.

As part of the Harper Government's pledge in 2006, Canadians will see GST go from 6 to 5 percent at midnight. Chris Tompkins director on the Portage and Manitoba Chamber of Commerce believes there will be a local impact , with the additional return trickling in to our businesses.
Dyer points out most economists expect Canada's growth to slow down, along with the forecast of a turbulent Canadian economy for 2008. He notes this makes the arrival of the GST cut timely, adding it's expected to generate an average of 1 thousand extra dollars in tax payers pockets.
