Last week's algae advisory issued for Delta Beach remains in effect.

It is recommended that people avoid swimming or other contact with the water, and to not drink the water as boiling or chlorination will not make it safe.

The province issued the advisory after recent testing uncovered high levels of blue-green algae. Water samples collected last week determined the cyanobacteria cell count was above the recreational guideline of 100,000 cells/mL.

The algae can cause illness such as diarrhea, stomach cramps, and eye and skin irritation. Additionally, it is being recommended to not eat fish from the lake that appear unhealthy. People should not allow pets or livestock to drink the water because the algae could be fatal to animals. Signs are currently in place cautioning beachgoers of the water quality.
