An e-mail scam is making the rounds, disguised as legitimate financial institutions.

It'll say your accounts may have been breached and they need your ID numbers to check.

Guy Moffat of RBC in Portage warns if you receive anything like that, it's a scam. He adds the scammers are very good, with websites that look like the real thing. They send out a large number of e-mails, hoping to catch someone not being vigilant.

Moffat says RBC doesn't contact customers via e-mail, and doesn't think other financial institutions do either. He cautions if scammers get your information, they're likely to use it right away.

Moffat urges you to forward any e-mails to your bank so they can follow up on them.
