Portage la Prairie will be cooking this week, with +30-degree weather in the forecast until Friday.

Samantha Mauti, Meteorologist at Environment and Climate Change Canada says that the humidex in Portage looks like it will be in the high to mid +30 range this week.

"In general, some of the temperatures are going to be reaching highs in the low 30s and overnight temperatures in the mid to high teens."

While she doesn't expect any warnings or watches for this week, Mauti says things can change quickly regarding the weather.

"Definitely keep an eye on any warnings that Environment Canada issues for the heat as well as any watches and warnings issued for any severe thunderstorms through this time."

Mauti points out that a cool front should pass through the region by the end of the week.

Is this heat above average temperature for this time of year?

Well, just like numerous places worldwide, things are above average, as usually the high for this time of year in Portage would only be +26.
