The City of Portage la Prairie has made the announcement of what has been finalized for Canada Day celebrations.

Councillor Wayne Wall shares what's taking place.

"There won't be any fireworks again this year due to health orders regarding large gatherings," says Wall. "So, Prairie City Cinema and PRRA have partnered to present the Canada Day drive-in feature film -- The Croods 2: A New Age -- at Stride Place. Admission is free. Space is limited, so you need to pre-register on the Prairie City Cinema's website."

Wall says the movie parking will open at 8:45 p.m.

"You'll have a confirmation email that will admit you through the gate," adds Wall. "And then there will be popcorn sales, and the washrooms at Stride Place will be open. The audio will be over your radio in your car via FM and they'll tell you what channel to monitor on FM."

PRRA with Canada Heritage will also be giving away free Canada Day family packs until they run out.

"Each pack is filled with family-friendly items that will increase your fun this Canada Day, and you can pick yours up at Stride Place on the south side loop drive-through on June 29th and 30th from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m."

General manager of PRRA Angie Shindle says Splash Island will also be opening July 1st for free public swim.

"We will be offering free time slots available for pre-registration," notes Shindle. "This registration will take place June 28th starting at 12:00 p.m. Please visit our website for more information."
