The City Manager of Portage la Prairie likes to ensure he goes above and beyond for his community.

Nathan Peto has been a member of the Rotary Club of Portage la Prairie since he moved to the city five years ago. He says his connection to Rotary Club began when he was only a teenager.

"I actually started as an exchange student when I was 17-years old," explains Peto. "I spent a year in South Africa, and then following that, coming back when I lived in Brandon, I was involved with what was called Rotaract, which was for Rotarians under 30."

He adds, Rotary's given him plenty of opportunities. Still, he is especially inspired by what Portage's Club has been able to improve the quality of life for the people in the community. He notes you can't walk around the community without seeing something the local Rotary Club has worked on.

"Everybody committed to the Duck Pond project," explains Peto. "When I see the before and after, as well as how much impact that had on the community, it really brings a lot of pride to me as a Rotarian, but also as a member of the community."

Peto mentions, those unsure of joining Rotary should reach out and attend a meeting as a guest. He notes many services in the area can only be provided by service clubs like Rotary.

"If you are a believer in your community and your community's future, you need to get involved with the service group and help make that future brighter for everyone," says Peto. "That's why I'm proud to be a Rotarian. If you want to give back to this Community, this is a great group of volunteers, they do great things, and they've got a heck of a track record."

Those looking to reach out to the Rotary Club can do so on their Facebook page.
