Six local non-profits have received a boost to help in their response to Covid-19.

Community Foundation of Portage and District Executive Director Mandy Dubois explains they were able to provide a total of $40,000 to local organizations thanks to the Emergency Community Support Fund.

"This is a vital step in the recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic," says Dubois. "Local non-profits have been working tirelessly to support those who need it the most right now and this additional funding is much needed to boost their efforts and ensure our community recovers from this pandemic."

Dubois says the Community Foundation is excited to have been able to grant funds to the following organizations:

  • The Herman Prior Activity Centre for a hand-washing station outside their main kitchen.

  • The Canadian National Institute for the Blind to provide virtual programming.

  • Youth For Christ to create safe spaces for people attending their summer programming.

  • The Portage la Prairie School Division to ensure all schools are safe for staff and students to return in the fall.

  • The Fort la Reine School to help them provide students with fun extra-curricular activities throughout the summer.

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters to bring their staff back to work full time and ensure they'll be able to provide programming in the fall.

The Emergency Community Support Fund was funded through the Canadian government, in partnership with the Community Foundations of Canada, United Way Centraide Canada and the Canadian Red Cross.
