The Country Lane Quilters were busy on Saturday when they hosted the Manitoba Ag Societies Provincial Quilt Competition Finals.

The quilters came in full force and displayed the best of their quilts for the public to see and prizes.

Zandra Johnston is the President. She talks about the Country Lane Quilters.

"We're a group of quilters that love doing it," says Johnston. "We meet monthly, and we learn from each other, and try to develop our skills. We also try to be involved as much as we can in the community."

She says this event was the perfect opportunity to teach Portage about quilting.

"What we're trying to do in our group is get the attention out there through this show," says Johnston. "We want people to know that quilting is still going on and try to get young people in it."

She notes getting young people involved is very difficult.

"We would love new members. We have 3 or four new members this year that are younger," says Johnston. "But, there are none in their twenties or thirties. It's such a wonderful thing, you can do this until you're 90. It's a great thing to do with your life."
