A broken rail crossing in front of Richardson Milling on the SW side of Portage is the cause of a detour early Thursday.

Crews started the emergency repairs in the middle of the night and expect to be done by about 10:30 a.m. The repairs mean the crossing is closed for the time being and vehicles, as well as trains, will need to wait until the job is completed before using the crossing again.

Several businesses are located in the area and people who use the crossing each morning are being forced to take the long way around and circle back in order to get to work.

CLOSED CROSSING
