The Portage Rotary Club will be helping Santa Claus make his way around the city to wave hello to all the boys and girls on the nice list.

PR Director Preston Meier says, unfortunately, the annual parade of lights had to be cancelled due to the COVID pandemic, but Santa didn't want to disappoint, so he's still coming to town. He says families can wait either by their windows or outside to see the jolly one himself as he tours through Portage.

"Santa will start Friday, December the 3rd at 5:00 PM on the East End of town," explains Meier. "So, it'll be starting right around about 10th Street and he's going to make his way all the way through the north end."

He'll also be making an appearance the following day, on the 4th, which will start at 5:00 p.m., and be in the south end of Portage as well. If you're worried that you might freeze waiting for St. Nick if it gets too cold, they'll also have an app that will track Santa throughout the city. That way, you only have to come outside when you know he's just around the corner.

"The Parade of Lights has been going on for a number of years, and the community showed some great support getting involved," notes Meier. "We had 65-70 floats that would go through town, handing out candy. We don't want to dwell on the negatives, and we didn't want anyone to be disappointed."

The Rotary Club would like to stress that Santa can't make it to every street, so check the route, and make alternate plans if Santa isn't going to come by your house because he wants to see everybody.
