The 150 Women Who Care night of the year took place Thursday in Portage la Prairie to issue a substantial amount of funding to one of five groups who applied for the grant.

"It's a sigh of relief."

That's from Family Resource Centre's executive director Melissa Morrison after hearing of their award from the 150 Women Who Care event held Thursday night in Portage.

"The Family Resource Centre was awarded $10,000 last night from 150 Women Who Care," continues Morrison. "I really think most people in community can relate to the feeling of connection and the feeling of support. And I really think sharing some stats and stories about how there's a lot of folks in our community that don't have that, but don't have family or friends kind of rooting and cheering them on and that's really where we at the Family Resource Centre step in to help. I think that probably spoke to a lot of people."

Morrison says she submitted a video because she was unable to attend personally. She explains where the money will go.

"We find at our organization that finding dollars to run programs to create new ones or add materials for our programs is relatively easy for us," says Morrison. "The hardest thing for us to find, as an organization, are dollars to pay staff. And without our staff, we don't have the people on hand to help build that support, and those connection pieces. So, these funds are going to directly go toward our efforts to do that."

She extends her thanks and appreciation to all who voted for them, as well as Mandy Dubois and the Community Foundation for putting this event together.
