The Portage Terriers faced off against the Waywayseecappo Wolverines under the lights at Stride Place Friday night, picking up a thrilling comeback 5-2 win in the process.

The Terriers came into the contest looking for their 11th victory of the year against an excellent Wolverines squad who were focused on inching closer to the Dauphin Kings for 1st place in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's West Division with their 18th win of the campaign.

Things didn't look great to start the game for Portage as Wayway got on the board first a minute and twenty-five seconds into the game after an extended shift in the offensive zone.

Terriers Goaltender #33 Liam Stevens limped off the ice with a reported ankle injury after the game's first goal, forcing #35 Jayden Catellier to come off the bench in relief.

Just moments after Catellier made his way to the crease, the Wolverines scored another marker, this time on the powerplay, to make the score 2-0 for the visitors just 5 minutes and 17 seconds into the game.

The Terriers would rally and put their slow start behind them when #7 Mason Smith came down the left-wing and sniped home a goal to make the game 2-1 heading into the first intermission.

In the second frame, the Terriers worked hard and eventually got on the board again, this time #22 Daniel Siso scored from in close, showing some lovely mitts to make it a tie hockey game at 2-2.

Captain #19 Logan Calder gave the dogs their first lead of the game just a minute thirty-seven into the 3rd period with a snipe, his team-leading 16th of the season.

From there, the Terriers never looked back, scoring two more goals. One from #10 Dylan Winsor, who threw the monkey off his back during his celebration, as it was his first goal of the season. Then an empty netter from the man who opened the scoring for the Terriers, #7 Mason Smith, sealing the deal on a 5-2 victory for the Portage Terriers over the Waywayseecappo Wolverines.

Logan Calder spoke after the game about how much this comeback victory means to his club.

"It's really big we're trying to build momentum here, going into the Christmas break, and I think we've been doing a really good job at trying to do that here."

Calder showed why he wears the C on his chest when asked what his 3rd-period goal meant to him personally.

"Not a whole lot. I mean, I'm coming into this year with a lot more confidence than I have been, so that's always nice. But I can't thank my linemates enough for helping me out game in game out."

Moving along, Calder says the boys will continue to take things one game at a time as they head into the break.

The Terriers will look to do it all again tomorrow (Saturday) against the Wolverines, this time at the Waywayseecappo Arena Complex, with puck drop slated for 7:30 pm.
