A plethora of first-time council members from all over the province met last week at the Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM) 2022 Fall Convention.

Councillor Colin Doyle was elected for Portage la Prairie on October 26th and was in attendance.

He notes that this being his first AMM, he is extremely excited about everything they learnt while attending.

"The organization has put together an excellent conference. You could tell the work that was put into this," he continues. "The breakout groups we attended taught us how to deal with media, difficult people and just what to expect moving forward. We even had a panel with all the ministers from the province of Manitoba, and we got to ask them the hard questions. It was all very respectful and just a great learning experience."

Doyle also mentions that if he were to take one thing away from the conference, it would be that the AMM is always there, fighting for the municipalities. He says that he is happy to bring the information back to Portage.

"It's a pretty special organization, just filled with members who not only are looking over their municipalities, but everyone is looking out for each other's municipalities as well. It's just one big community."
