Gas prices look to be dropping to their lowest level nationally since mid-March, and we should see a savings locally as well.

Head of Petroleum Analysis with GasBuddy.com, Patrick DeHaan, has been watching the pumps in Portage la Prairie.

"We're likely to see gas prices continue to fall. In fact, gas prices in Portage la Prairie [are] already at about $1.09 a litre," says DeHaan. "[They] may fall a few more cents per litre, closer to Winnipeg, which is almost down to double digits. One station there is at 100.9."

A quick search this morning saw most stations sit around 108.9 cents per litre.

"Oil prices have been falling and that has opened the door for cheaper gasoline prices and that will likely continue, at least for the next few days," says DeHaan. "Oil prices have perked back up slightly, and I think there could be an end to the falling prices in the next week or two."

He says the drop in prices is expected throughout rural Manitoba as well. Austin Co-op, for example, sits at 108.9 as well.

"Prices provincially average about 109.4 and Portage la Prairie is just slightly under that, about a half-cent per litre lower, and I would expect that to continue for a good portion of the week," says DeHaan.

He says you don't need to rush out and fill your tank right away. He adds that he is predicting that some prices will be at their lowest just before the weekend.
