Last week saw the launch of the Portage la Prairie Hub Table.

It happened at Stride Place, with a large number of human service professionals there, as well as the provincial justice minister.

Portage Community Revitalization Corporation Executive Director Victoria Espey's the chair of the Hub Table, and was also part of the planning committee, during its year-long task.

Victoria EspeyShe feels the Hub's in line with PCRC's mandate.

"We were put in place as a neighbourhood renewal corporation, because Portage la Prairie has some challenges," she says, "And so part of our mandate is to initiate projects that improve the health and well-being of families in Portage la Prairie. And we feel that the Portage la Prairie Hub is an extremely good fit for some of the crises that Portage is currently facing."

Espey says the mood among team members is positive, despite some initial concerns.

"Because it is a non-consent based model," she says, "Once we got through the training, excitement really started to build. Once we got to know one another, excitement really started to build -- when we started learning about what each organization had to offer, excitement started to build. So we're breaking down silos, we're working together as one, and we're able to offer a much better service to people in our community."
