An RM of Portage man faces impaired related charges stemming from an incident earlier this week.

On May 31, just before 10 p.m., Portage la Prairie RCMP received a call of a suspicious person and vehicle at a residence on Road 69 North.

Media Liaison Officer Constable Larry Neufeld says when officers arrived, there was a vehicle parked in a shop with the driver asleep at the wheel. The officers noted alcohol containers inside the vehicle and suspected the driver may be impaired.

The officers had to wake the driver and further evidence indicated that the driver was intoxicated. A 29-year-old man from the RM of Portage la Prairie was arrested for impaired operation of a conveyance and taken to the RCMP Detachment to provide breath samples to be analyzed.

The results of the breath samples collected were more than the legal limit to operate a motor vehicle.

The driver was charged with impaired operation of a conveyance and operation of a conveyance while over 80mg%.

The driver's licence was suspended and his vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days.
