In the Portage Plains Slo-pitch league playoffs last night Western Bearing advanced in the "A" side by defeating T.J Wards 19-18.  With the loss T.J Wards drops to the ''B'' side.  Elsewhere it was the Chargers over the Bulls 14-1 and Pizza Hut got past the Arrowhead Boys 13-9.


The Western Canadian "AAA" Pee Wee championships began yesterday in Morden, with the Portage Phillies representing Manitoba.
The Phillies will battle teams from Alberta, Saskatchewan, B.C. and the host club which they met up with last night. Portage made it to this weekend's competition by garnering a second place finish in Winnipeg at the recent provincials.
The Phillies got their first test of the four-day event when they took on the host South Central team last night, the result was a 9-8 Phillies loss. 

 

In the Northern Baseball League action Glenn Bott took the loss as the Winnipeg Goldeyes dropped a 6-3 decision to Edmonton.
The Cracker-cats Chris Becker broke a two-run tie in the sixth inning with a three run homer. The Goldeyes could only manage one more run as their second half record fell to 14-18. The fish start a three game series with Kansas City tonight in Winnipeg.
